4 Apex Wrestling School Members have earned national rankings and All-American honors from several nationally recognized ranking organizations. 3X Undefeated NJ State Champion, Anthony Ashnault, 2X NHSCA National Champion and NJ State Champion Lenny Richardson, NJ State Finalist and Senior National All-American Sal Mastriani, and NJ State Champion Johnny Sebastian all earned national rankings. Below are the rankings:
Intermatwrestle.com National Rankings:
Intermat is generally considered the top 1 or 2 in terms of ranking organizations. Compiled by columinst Jason Bryant these rankings take in-season and out of season results into account. With a heavy emphasis on Fargo and other freestyle/greco-roman results such as FILA’s these rankings represent a wrestlers overall level across all three styles of wrestling. Some people feel that Fargo results are too heavily favored in these folkstyle rankings.
126lbs1. Jimmy Guliban, Derry Area, PA. Senior 2. Dean Heil, St. Edwards, Oh. Junior 3. Rossi Bruno, Brandon, Fl. Senior 4. Anthony Ashnault, South Plainfield, NJ. Junior 5. Brandon Jeske, Cox, Va. Junior
Guilban and Heil are generally considered the consensus #1 and #2 in the country in what many people consider the deepest weight in the country. Mr. Bryant gives Bruno the nod over Ashnault for #3 despite a poor showing at Super 32 due to the strength of his wins at Fargo and higher placement than Ashnault in both Freestyle and Greco.
145lbs1. Jason Tsirtsis, Crown Point, In. Senior 2. Gabriel Moreno, Urbandale, Ia. Senior 3. Mark Hall, Apple Valley, Mn. Class of 2012 4. Jake Short, Smiley, Mn. Junior 5. Mitch Minotti, Easton, Pa. Senior …… 9. Dylan Milonis, Blair, NJ. Sophomore …… 14. Alexander “Lenny” Richardson, St. Peters Prep, NJ, Senior
With his NHSCA Junior National and Senior National Championships, along with his 2012 State Championship Lenny earns a top 15 ranking. His 5th place state finish in 2011 and Beast of the East loss to Dylan Milonas keep him from finishing in the top 10.
152lbs:1. Bo Jordan, Graham, OH. Junior 2. Isaiah Martinez, Lemoore, CA. Junior 3. Max Schneider, Chicago Lane, IL. Senior 4. Brian Murphy, Glenbard North, IL. Junior 5. Brian Realbuto, Somers, NY. Senior …… 13. Salvatore Mastriani, Don Bosco Prep, NJ. Senior
The three time NJ State Placer breaks into the top 15 in this Junior heavy weight class. If not for getting caught in a headlock in the quarters of Senior Nationals (in which he wrestled all the way back for 3rd) Sal would have been in the top ten. Look for Sal to make noise on the national level for NCAA Division I Virginia Tech!
160lbs:1. Chance Marsteller, Kennard-Dale, PA. Sophomore 2. Joey Davis, Sante Fe, CA. Senior 3. Isaac Jordan, Graham, OH. Senior 4. Clark Glass, Brandon, FL. Senior 5. Brian Brill, Central Mountain, PA. Senior …… 12. Jacob Crawford, Millbrook, Va. Senior …… 14. Johnny Sebastian, Bergen Catholic, NJ. Sophomore
Only a Sophomroe Johnny breaks into the top 14 on the strength of solid freestyle showings and his 2012 NJ State Championships. In 2011 he was also a state place finisher. Look for Johnny to break into the top 5 next season. Johnny finishes ranked 2 spots below Crawford whom he defeated at the 2012 Beast of the East in a very close 1 pt. match. Crawford’s resume and Super 32 (where he cut all the way to 145) gave him the nod for a higher ranking over Sebastian.
Win Magazine National Rankings:
Win Magazines national rankings on the East Coast are considered the 2nd best rankings to intermat. That might be due to their seemingly east coast bias but in terms of ranking folkstyle ranking they place a big emphasis on Super 32, NHSCA Nationals and FloNationals, all folkstyle events. While they generally consider Fargo they rarely place a higher ephasis on an event like Fargo over Super32. When ranking folkstyle it seems to be logically to weight folkstyle events more heavily. i.e Ashnault being ranked over Bruno via higher Super 32 finish. (See below) ***Please note that these have not been updated since the NHSCA National Duals. We will update you as soon as the new rankings come out.***
126lbs:1. Dean Heil, Sr. Lakewood, OH St. Edward 2. Jimmy Gulibon, Sr. Derry, PA 3. Thomas Gilman, Sr. Omaha, NE Skutt 4. Brandon Jeske, Jr. Virginia Beach, VA Frank W. Cox 5. Anthony Ashnault, Jr. South Plainfield, NJ 6. Joey Dance, Jr. Christiansburg, VA 7. Rossi Bruno, Sr. Brandon, FL

152lbs:1. Bo Jordan, Jr. St. Paris, OH Graham 2. Isaiah Martinez, Jr. Lemoore, CA 3. Brian Realbuto, Sr. Somers, NY 4. Max Schneider, Sr. Chicago, IL Lane Tech 5. Brian Murphy, Jr. Carol Stream, IL Glenbard North ……. 14. Sal Mastriani, Sr. Ramsey, NJ Don Bosco Prep

WIN drops the ball on this one ranking Sebastian way below Crawford whom he defeated at the Beast of the East this past season.
Cliff Keen National Rankings
These rankings, published on The Open Mat, are the third strongest national rankings. They take Fargo into account on their rankings and are sometimes accused of being mid east bias. However, Willie Saylor is one of the most educated columinist in the sport today and provides justification for every weight class. He is also one of the only ones who will admit if he overlooked someone or a result and will make nearly immediate updates to his rankings. These tend to be fair and balanced.
