Freestyle and Greco-Roman Practice

Dear Members, Out last email regarding our Freestyle and Greco-Roman practices may have been confusing to some members not familiar with our practice structure. Please see this page for a reference regarding our practices. Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling are the Olympic styles of wrestling and have their own rule sets. Freestyle most commonly resembles folkstyle (collegiate wrestling) which is what your children compete in as youth, middle school, high school and college wrestlers. Greco-Roman, is the oldest style of wrestling, and only utilizes upper body attacks and defenses. Wrestlers are penalized for attacking their opponents legs in Greco-Roman wrestling. We believe that learning these two styles will help our athletes in their folkstyle seasons. In addition, it can be a fun way to continue to develop skills without the same level of pressure. Apex Mahwah Class Schedule Sundays: 3pm-4:30pm Freestyle Class for 7th-12th grade Mondays: 6:30pm-8pm Folkstyle Class for Elementary, 8pm-9:30pm Folkstyle and Freestyle Combination class for 7th-12th grade. Tuesday: 6:30pm-8pm Grade School (Middle School Class,) 8pm-9:30pm Folkstyle Class for JV and Varsity (Some freestyle will be mixed in but this is a “Folkstyle” class.)
