This past weekend over 20 Apex Wrestlers and 5 coaches made the trip to Greensboro, NC for the prestigious Super 32 wrestling tournament. Super 32 is considered the toughest folkstyle tournament in the country and features more nationally ranked wrestlers than any other folk-style tournament in the country. In total we had 1 champion, 5 place-finishers and two more athletes make the Rd. of 12 in the High School Division.

img_1943Kyle Cochran- 1st at 160lbs  Kyle, who has committed to the University of Maryland, continued his winning ways in an absolutely loaded bracket. The 2016 NJ State Champion, NHSCA Junior National Champion, turned in one of the most impressive performances of the tournament; he not only won by beating 3 nationally ranked wrestlers, he did so without giving up a single takedown all tournament.

Grant Aaronff- 3rd at 138lbs Grant, a Florida State Champion who trains with us on school breaks and throughout the summer, turned in a very impressive performance. After dropping a very competitive match in the round of 16, Grant came all the way back for 3rd. In the consultation rounds Grant dominated NJ State Placer Robert Cleary, NY State Champion Jake Silverstein and earned pins in the consi-semis and consi-finals.

Brian McLoughlin- 4th at 170lbs Brian, a Drexel University commit, lost a heart breaking Rd. of 16 match before storming back into the 3rd and 4th place match. Battling several small injuries Brian picked up wins over several nationally ranked wrestlers as well as many state place finishers. Brian finished 4th in NJ last year and was 3rd at the 2016 NHSCA Junior National Championships.

Kendall Elfstrum- 7th at 182lbs Kendall is a NY State Medalist for Monroe-Woodbury in NY, and a NHSCA All-American. Kendall put together an impressive 6-2 record at the tournament en route to his 7th place finish. Along the way he beat state medalists from Indiana, Colorado, and Virginia.

Joe Soreco- 6th at 220lbs. Joe put together a great tournament, advancing all the way to the Semi-finals. In the Semi-finals he lost a very close decision (3-2) to a multiple time state placer from Pa.

Nick Santos- Rd. of 12 Nick had a great tournament advancing to the Rd. of 16 before dropping a close match to a state medalist from Georgia. His run through the wrestle backs was cut short when he ran into NY State Champion Peter Pappas. Nick is a multiple time All-American and 2016 NJ State Medalist. After this tournament its clear he will be in the hunt for a State Championship this year.

Connor O’Niel- Rd. of 12 at 120lbs. Connor put together a great performance. The freshman went 5-2 and made the Rd. of 12. Connor showed that he has prepared for competition at the highest level and it capable of making the podium in Atlantic City this year!

Congratulations to our Middle School Champion: Nick Fea- 1st at 80lbs in the Middle School Division. Nick, a NY State Champion and NHSCA National Champion is showing that he is one of the best middle school wrestlers in the country and will be a force in high school!
